Sustainable, Integrated, Evidence based spine care: Introducing World Spine Care

One of the organizations that INDEAL Cares is supporting is World Spine Care; a global charity with a mission to improve lives in under-served communities by providing evidence-based, sustainable spine care.

Their goal is to create a world in which everyone has access to the highest quality spine care possible.

WHY?

  • More than a billion people in the world today experience spine related disabilities.

  • The greatest burden of disability worldwide is attributed to neck and back pain combined.

  • Disproportionately affects women, the elderly, rural communities and lower income countries.

Populations in under-served areas of the world, especially rural populations, often have no access to conventional healthcare resources to care for spinal conditions. Most are currently treated by traditional healers or in hospitals where they receive pain/anti-inflammatory medication only. There are no models of care available to enable health care workers to treat the spectrum of spinal conditions common in under-served areas of the world.

The result is that individuals must contend with pain and disability which affects their daily lives in many cases making manual tasks impossible, thus reducing their productivity and even their ability to maintain their standard of life.

With the help of dedicated and generous volunteers from all over the world, World Spine Care operates spine care clinics in Botswana, the Dominican Republic, Ghana and India, and works to provide education and support to those who need it most. Learn more about World Spine Care here.
